House rules.
Molly’s Cottage is Gillian’s own holiday home, so please treat it with care and respect, as you would your own. Here’s everything you need to know, from arrival to locking up.
Arriving and leaving
- Check-in
- From 15:00. Self check-in with a lockbox, so there’s no need to worry if traffic delays you.
- Check-out
- By 11:00. The steps for leaving are under Before you leave.
During your stay
- Guests
- Up to six guests, or two for a main bedroom stay. We can accept one additional guest, seven in total, for an extra £50 per stay.
- Parties
- Absolutely no parties or events. Quiet hours are 23:00–07:00. Misuse of the cottage of this kind will incur charges.
- Smoking
- No smoking anywhere inside the cottage. Smoking is permitted outside.
- Pets
- No pets, please.
- Candles
- No candles, please. LED candles are supplied.
- Wood burner
- A basket of logs is supplied; further baskets are £10 each. Please don’t leave the burner doors open.
- Shoes
- We’d appreciate shoes not being worn in the house, to keep the floors clean.
Looking after the cottage
- Septic tank
- Please put nothing but toilet paper down the loos. The cottage is on a septic tank, and anything else blocks the drains.
- Furniture
- Please don’t move furniture or ornaments around the house, unless it’s for the safety of small children.
- Ornaments
- The nautical ornaments and soft toys around the house are there for decoration, not play, so please don’t give them to children. Anything broken or spoiled will need replacing, which will incur a charge.
- Glassware
- Please don’t put wine glasses in the dishwasher. They keep getting broken, and broken glass left in the dishwasher is dangerous.
- Welcome basket
- There’s always a welcome basket waiting for you. The contents are yours to enjoy; the basket itself belongs to Molly’s, so please leave it behind.
Safety
- Staircase
- Upstairs is reached by a wide spiral staircase. It’s perfectly safe used sensibly, but please don’t run up and down it, and don’t let children play on it. A child safety gate is supplied. We accept no responsibility for misuse.
- Garden
- There’s a rope swing and a rowing boat in the back garden. Please take care when children are playing there; we accept no responsibility.
- Alarms
- Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are fitted.
- Cameras
- Ring cameras cover the outside of the cottage: the parking area at the front, and the back garden and fields beyond. There are no cameras inside.
Before you leave
- Switch off
- Turn the cooker off at the wall and switch off the television. Please also turn off the boiler switch (it’s marked), in the cupboard on the right as you walk into the downstairs shower room.
- Kitchen
- Put the dishwasher on, so it’s clean when the cleaner arrives.
- Bedrooms
- Leave the beds turned back and gather the used towels.
- Rubbish
- Put all rubbish in the sacks provided. Recycling, including glass, goes straight into the green bin, unbagged.
- Locking up
- Close all windows and doors. Lock the front door, put the keys back in the key safe and spin the wheel.
- Cleaning
- Please leave the cottage as you found it. If it’s left in an unacceptable state, an extra cleaning charge will apply.
